Dark Cravings
by Lisabet Sarai

Happy Halloween, everyone! I'm delighted to be guesting over here at H K's blog on one of my favorite days of the year. In honor of the holiday, I thought I would talk about the way we erotic authors are motivated by dark cravings. Ask any one of us. If we're honest, we'll admit that we write, at least in part, to exorcise wicked and forbidden hungers.

I don't mean the desire to drink blood or tear victims limb from limb. I'm talking about the lusts we dare not consummate, the dangerous fantasies that would shatter our neat little worlds if we ever made them real. Ever imagine being ravished by a stranger? Or by more than one?  Pictured yourself kissing and fondling your closest female friend? Thought about being tied so tightly you couldn't move, with vibrating dildos embedded front and rear? Ever watch your twenty-year-old son's best buddy, blond, tanned and well-muscled, and wish you could lure the guy upstairs to your bedroom on a sleepy summer afternoon? Then there's that crush you had in high school, that never went beyond a single kiss on graduation night. What if you encountered him again at your twentieth reunion and could slip away from your unsuspecting husband to reignite that lost passion?

Practically every erotic author I know began by dumping personal fantasies to the page and then pushing them far beyond anything she'd ever do in reality.  I'm no exception. My debut novel, Raw Silk, is not in any sense autobiographical, but it was fueled by recollections of my first experiences with BDSM. In the book, my heroine Kate goes far beyond anything my master and I did during our few short months of active experimentation. Furthermore, my hero Gregory has none of my real master's insecurities or hang-ups. In fact (though I didn't realize it at the time), he's a bit of a stereotype, the idealized Dom of whom every submissive dreams. Still, he's not cardboard. He speaks with my master's voice, in that mocking yet tender tone that melted me during our thrilling encounters. I even had Gregory use some of my master's words.

Raw Silk is an expression of the profound impact our mutual explorations had upon me and my sexuality. It's a tribute to him, as well as a lavish fantasy extravaganza in which he claims me for his own, forever.

In the real world, my master and I drifted apart. He never managed to communicate his real feelings for me; I thought he saw me as nothing more than a kinky playmate. By the time I understood the true depth of our bond, I had met and married my husband, a loving and sexually adventurous man, but someone who is bewildered by my submissive yearnings. My first novel turns back time, allowing me to play with notions of what my life might have been like, had I taken another path.

I'm still in contact with my master. Our youthful passion has transformed itself into an intimate friendship.  As my writing has matured, I've tackled characters and scenarios far less similar to my personal history,  but he still haunts my stories every now and again. I've written quite a few tales set in an alternative universe where my master and I were still a couple, even set up housekeeping together. Interested readers will find several in my recent collections Body Electric, Just a Spanking and Spank Me Again, Stranger. (I'm curious as to whether people could figure out just which tales were most closely modeled after him.) And occasionally, I've gone beyond those imaginings, into the true heart of darkness.

My short story “Never Too Late” (in Body Electric) tackles a particularly dangerous “what if” scenario. What if I'd met my master later in life, after a long and happy marriage? Would I have reacted the same way as I did when I was in my twenties? Would I have experienced the same transcendent level of fulfillment? And if I did, what then?

Let my story speak for me.

                                                                                        ****

There's nothing he can do to me that I will refuse. He lashes me with the crop he extracts from his suitcase. He paddles my butt with the long-handled shoe horn he finds in the closet. He buries his cock in my ass and sinks his fist into my cunt. He makes me lick his anus and even drink his pee.

It doesn't matter. I want it all, after waiting so many years. I want the degradation, the pain, the constant unbearable arousal. Above all I crave the overwhelming high that comes from knowing he's pleased. His praise is far more satisfying than an orgasm even the world-shattering climaxes he wrings so skillfully from my middle-aged body.

When even he is too tired to fuck, we talk. I learn that he is single, that he lives in Silver Spring, that he's a partner in a corporate and tax practice. I tell him about my history, my work, my fantasies. We don't discuss my husband.

On the day the conference ends, we finally venture out into the world. I return to my own room for a shower and a change of clothes. We meet for breakfast in the coffee shop on the twenty-second floor, overlooking the harbor.

He orders Eggs Benedict. I can't handle more than coffee and toast. He's shy, most of his bravado gone. It's up to me to keep the conversation going.

"My flight is at noon. I'm booked on the nine-thirty shuttle van." I feel compelled to tell him this, to re-establish some kind of sobriety after days of intoxication. When I see his stricken expression, I wish I'd kept my mouth shut.

He pushes Hollandaise around on his plate. "Come home with me," he says finally. "Stay with me." His eyes are naked. A lump of lead settles in my chest.

"I can't. I have work, responsibilities. Another life."

"That life is over. You'll never be satisfied with it again. Not now that you know who you are. Now that you know me..."

I have a sinking conviction that he's right. But I can't chuck everything and start over, can I?

"Your husband, your children they'll be fine without you." As in the bedroom, he reads my mind. "Haven't you given them enough? How many years has it been? Twenty? Thirty?"

"Twenty seven."

"I know you love him," Mark says. "But for those twenty seven long years, while he's had you, I've been waiting for you." He leaned closer. "I need you. More than he does."

"No." I shake my head, picturing my husband alone. Eating alone. Sleeping alone. How could I do such a thing to him? Then I look at Mark, feel the power he's broadcasting. I fight the urge to slip under the table and kneel at his feet.

He grabs my hand so hard that pain shoots up my arm. "Picture what it will be like. You'll be mine, my slave, my darling. I'll take care of you. I'll give you everything you need. We barely know each other now, but you feel the connection, too. I know you do. Think how it will be, spending months together. Years. A new life. A new start. It's never too late."

I struggle to hold back the rising tears. "No, it's just not possible. You reach a stage in your life where you're no longer free. Not even free to explore yourself."

Do I really believe this? When I'm with Mark, anything seems possible. I feel like one of the Apostles. Drop your nets and your tools and follow me, Jesus told them. I will be your mother, your father, your children. How old were they when they abandoned their lives for the Light?

This feels like the same sort of revelation, demanding the same kind of sacrifice. Or am I deluding myself?

"Mark, you have to understand..."

"Nobody understands you better than I do." His dominant streak reasserts itself briefly. The power in his voice makes me damp and helpless. Then he allows it to slip away. I see the raw emotion in his face. "Do you want me to beg?"

I'm being torn apart. If pleasing him is my greatest joy, imagine what it feels like to make him hurt.

"Please, have pity on me..."

"I do pity you. I've given you a great gift and you're about to toss it away."

It's so tempting. I can imagine it so clearly, waking up with him beside me or inside me. Going deeper, exploring the limits of desire and endurance. I want this gift so badly. Can I really reach out and take it?
                                                                          ****
Dark cravings indeed. The fantasy is seductive. I'm glad that I can experience it within the safe confines of my writing, rather than loosing my demons to the light of day.

What are your demons? What do you read or write that you wouldn't dare put into practice? Leave me a comment below and you could win your choice of any of the three short story collections above. I'll draw the winner on Sunday the 4th of November.

Don't forget to leave your email address in your comment. And have a Happy Halloween!

Please welcome Author Nichelle Gregory to Pick a Genre Already… Warm Welcome, Nichelle...

Thanks for having me on, H K!

What was your favourite book as a child/teenager?

I loved Nancy Drew and Sweet Valley High! I stumbled upon Harlequin romances one day in the school library and was hooked! I read every single one on that shelf.

H K:  I read the Sweet Valley High books too. Loved 'em!

Who was the first author or what was the first book you read that introduced you to the genre that you most enjoy writing in?

Hmmm…I can’t remember the first book I picked up, but there are two that made and indelible impression on me…Thorn Birds by Colleen Mccullough and Wifey by Judy Blume.

Do you believe in love at first sight? And if so have you ever been so afflicted? Did you do anything about it? (Did you go for it?)

I believe in lust at first sight. Love comes later after the relationship has been tested and layered with all the emotions that go into creating a bond with another human being.

Have I been afflicted with lust at first sight? Hell, yes? Did I do anything about it? Hell, yes. :)

Is there a particular word you overuse or writing technique that your editor(s) ride you about? Mine is over using the word ‘harshly’.

LOL! It seems I like adding in ‘as’ more than I should.

Have you ever suffered from writer’s block? (Or do you even believe in it?) If so, how were you able to overcome it?

I have suffered from writer’s block and the best way for me to combat it is by picking up a good book. That always helps. I try to appreciate the fact that sometimes my muse just needs a little time to recharge.

If you could live anywhere in the world where would it be?

Hmmmm…I’d love to travel to many different places, but I’d probably stay in the Windy City. I love the changing seasons. I love being close to water. I love all the things the city offers.

If you could bring one of your own characters to life, who would it be and why?

Oooo…it would be a toss up between Quin, a super sexy alpha FBI agent from Hearts & Diamonds and Vander, a sexy genie with a penchant for romance from As You Wish.

What are you reading right now?

Currently, nothing. I’m working feverishly to finish up a holiday short, but I just finished reading Princess Mine by Brindle Chase…what a delicious read!

If there was a movie made of your life what would it be called? Which celebrity would you want to play you?

Omg. Hmmm…Behind Closed Doors starring Naomie Harris. :)

If you were to do a reality show, which one would it be?

Project Runway!

What is the craziest, most exciting, or most dangerous thing you’ve ever done?

The most exciting would probably be singing solo on stage in front of a packed auditorium.

H K:  I heard a clip of Nichelle singing on Facebook, she has an amazing voice. I got goosebumps hearing her sing. I'm sure you blew their socks off Nichelle!

Name a celebrity, athlete, musician, etc. you’d most like to get naughty with.

Gosh. It’s hard to choose just one. I can’t have like a celebrity ménage? LoL
Fine. The Rock.

Tell us about your exciting new venture Simply Sexy Creations. My favourite is the Plaything and proud of it Tee.

Thank you, H K! That’s one of my faves too! Simply Sexy Creations is all about giving people something tangible to use or wear with the popular little catch phrases I’ve shared. I thought to myself one day, ‘I’d wear this,’ and I started researching how I could put my words onto products for other people to express themselves in a fun, sexy and a totally unique way!

Please tell us about your newest release.

VitaminP explores the dynamics of friendship, lust and love when tested under unusual circumstances. I had a blast writing this tale! I loved the concept of a drug formulated for women that would rival the male libido enhancing ones on the market today, giving just about any female effortless, mind-blowing orgasms. ;)

Excerpt:

“Nisa?”
There it was…a twisting arc of pleasure in her lower belly. Her eyes widened as it blossomed, widened, and sank lower.
Wet.
She was getting wet simply from the way Ryce said her name. Embarrassed, Nisa cleared her throat and crossed her arms across her chest. The movement made her nipples harden instantly.
It was happening.
“Seriously, are you all right?” Ryce frowned as he studied her. “You look flushed.”
“I’m fine. This ten-hour day is just catching up with me,” Nisa finally replied, aware of her hot face.
She squeezed her thighs together and gasped as the slimmest shimmer of an orgasm lit through her body. The teasing tendrils of bliss spread through her blood like wildfire, drenching her panties as Ryce continued to stare at her. Nisa was shocked by the physical manifestations of the drug. Unbelievably, it felt like she could climax right in front of Ryce if she simply squeezed her thighs together one more time.
“Yeah, me too,” Ryce said, turning his attention back to his monitor.
Nisa breathed a sigh of relief, not wanting to move with him looking at her.
With a cautious step, she walked toward the lab doors. Her clit felt super sensitive, her nipples were hard, and her pulse was racing. She stepped into the hallway, grateful no one was around or in the bathroom when she entered. Moving toward the mirror, Nisa stared at her reflection under the harsh fluorescent lights. Her French twist still looked as neat as it had when she’d left her place ten hours ago. She unbuttoned her lab coat, and her gaze was drawn to the outline of her breasts in her gray blouse. She spared no expense on high-end lingerie. Buying it had always been a guilty pleasure. The lightly padded bra she wore was designed to minimize her D cup breasts.
Nisa had always been embarrassed of her chest size as an awkward teenager. Growing up, she hadn’t embraced the unwanted attention her breasts received. She had never figured out how to flirt or use her feminine wiles like her female counterparts. In her profession, brains, not beauty, were celebrated, an aspect she’d always liked.
Until now.
Right now, she couldn’t wait to come out of her lacy white bra. Without even thinking, Nisa shrugged out of her lab coat, unbuttoned her blouse, and pulled down the soft fabric of her bra cups to expose her breasts. Her fingers plucked at her hard nipples, and a small moan escaped from between her lips. A whipcord of pleasure tightened around her body as she flicked her nipples harder and watched herself in the mirror. It felt so good to touch her breasts, but it was not enough to assuage the building need for a release.
She needed…wanted more. Much more.
Nisa glanced at the bathroom door. The odds of another woman walking in at the moment were low, but there was still a chance. She didn’t care. She needed to come right now.
“This is crazy.” Her soft voice echoed in the bathroom.
It was late, and her team was usually the last to leave the building. Reassured, Nisa hiked up her black skirt, exposing her thigh high stockings secured by her favorite garter belt and her white thong. She touched the damp spot on the front of her panties and hissed in a sharp breath. Still watching herself in the mirror, Nisa pulled the wet fabric aside and stared at her trimmed mound.
She moved forward, lifted her leg and placed her knee on the bathroom countertop. The position gave her more access to play. Her palm skimmed over the landing strip of soft ebony curls and delved into her pussy.
God!
She was so turned on she moaned again as she played in her wetness, captivated by her own erotic reflection. She caressed her drenched folds, teasing her clit while tugging on her nipples with her other hand. Her heartbeat thudded in her ears. She stroked faster, swirling her finger around her clit. Her breathy pants become more frantic. She couldn’t believe what she was doing. The woman in the mirror was not her…not with her legs spread wide and the pure look of lust on her face.
Nisa closed her eyes, lost in a haze of bliss, uncaring about anything else. She came hard with a soft cry, trembling with shock and delight as the waves of her orgasm washed over her. Her eyelids fluttered up, and she bit her lip to keep from crying out again while she struggled to breathe normally.
For a few moments, Nisa just looked at her reflection in the mirror. She didn’t recognize the wanton woman staring back at her. Her gaze was drawn again to her erect nipples and the dark chocolate skin of her areolas. She rubbed her palm across the tips of her breasts and whimpered when a powerful orgasmic aftershock ripped through her.
She pulled her slick fingers from her pussy, lifted them to her nose, and breathed in the heady scent of her own arousal. Her eyes shifted back from her wet fingers to the mirror.
It was unbelievable.
She’d just climaxed within a matter of minutes with no toy…no man.

Author Interviews, My First Review and a New Contract - What a Week! #Interview #Erotic #Romance #Review

It was a good Thanksgiving week around here at Pick a Genre Already and a pretty awesome week for me too.

I'll start off with what's happening today. I'm sitting in the Hot Seat over at H.C. Brown's Blog. I'd love it if you'd stop by and have a look. Leave a comment if you'd like.

 http://www.hcbrownauthoroferoticromance.blogspot.com.au/

And last week if you missed it, we started off the week with an interview with brand new author Noelle Keaton who shared the blurb for her debut m/m erotic romance Trusting The ER Doctor part of Total E-Bound's Emergency Servicing Medical Anthology coming in March 2013 and Thursday multi-published author H.C. Brown and award winning journalist and author DA Kentner, KevaD stopped by. We had some fun and they shared an excerpt from their newest release Sea Games, the first book in their collaboration for the Game Play Series. Scroll down to enjoy both those interviews.

Last week also marked my very first review of Swap. My first review ever actually, and to make it all the more special for me it came from an author whom I admire very much.

And I ended the week on an absolute high. I signed another contract with Total E-Bound for a short story that will be part of the Sexy Snax line, release date April 2013.

Coming from H K Carlton in 2013:

You Found Me ~ Historical Romance ~ MuseItUp Publishing ~ February 2013
Lost Time ~ Time-Travel Erotic Romance ~ Total E-Bound ~ February 25, 1013
Streetlight People ~ Erotic Romance ~ Total E-Bound ~ Sexy Snax ~ April 8, 2013
The Devil Take You ~  Historical Romance ~ MuseItUp ~ April 2013

So I'd better get back to work. I have several unfinished projects that need some attention before all those edits come rolling in.

Have a great week everyone,

H K

Blurb:

Brian Bowers is a man on a mission. Revenge weighs heavy on his mind. The need to punish the woman he once loved above all others falls into tatters the moment he sets eyes on her again. Fifteen years of walking on the fine edge between love and hate ends in an explosion of lust.

Patrice, sophisticated and wealthy, has her own agenda. She knows how to use her body to get what she wants. But Bowers knows how to play the game.

Set in a world of indulgence, Sea Games follows two hearts as they battle memories of the past. Will they win or lose a future together?

Now let's have some fun. Please Welcome H.C. Brown and KevaD...

What was your favourite book as a child/teenager?

H.C.      Peter Pan

KevaD   Curious George. Apparently, I liked yellow hats.

Who was the first author or what was the first book you read that introduced you to the genre that you most enjoy writing in?

H.C.   I actually don't read many of the genres I write. Everything I write comes from my head or research. My favourite author is Diana Gabaldon.  I enjoy a well written historical romance.

KevaD  “Ivanhoe” and “Siddhartha” introduced me to the intensity and beauty that could be instilled into a sentence.  Don Pendleton's 'The Executioner' series utilized strong values and high morality while kicking serious butt. He also included an active love interest. Pendleton broke some boundaries with his stories and characters, and we see his influence in many famous authors' works today.

Do you believe in love at first sight? And if so have you ever been so afflicted? Did you do anything about it? (Did you go for it?)

H.C.      Yes and I married him three weeks later.

KevaD    I used to fall in love at first sight frequently. Sobriety cured me.

Is there a particular word you overuse or writing technique that your editor(s) ride you about? Mine is over using the word 'harshly'.

H.C.      Elipses.

KevaD   I tend to find a new word to fall in love with in each project. Thank God for my  critique partners and the large hammers they use to beat me. In my latest work in progress I locked onto “teeth” for whatever reason. I'm also a huge fan of “but.”

Have you ever suffered from writer's block? (Or do you even believe in it?) If so, how were you able to overcome it?

H.C.    No. I suffer from not enough time to write syndrome. I think writers block is boredom. If a story bores an author it is not going to interest the reader.

KevaD  Writers block for me is usually a scene I haven't worked out in my head beforehand. I'll either work on something else or go for a drive or find some other place I can be alone to play out the scene in my mind. True story - I once had all my characters sit down in the living room and discuss the scene with each other while I took notes. The female lead's tapping her foot while pretending to sip her coffee sparked the direction the chapter eventually took. Yeah. My wife thinks I'm nuts too.

H K     I love that, KevaD! I can almost picture it. Hmm, What does that say about me?

H.C. and KevaD, can you describe to us your writing process when working with a co-author? How did it work for you?

H.C.     KevaD scares me to death. He writes so fast he reminds me of the Road Runner beep beep -- here's another chapter. I wish I could write fast but I plod along. KevaD is professional and expects a high standard and so do I, so co-authoring works for us.

KevaD   H.C. afraid of me? Pfft. The woman's a demon on paper. She makes what I write better. Believe me, I'm reaping the benefits of her expertise. Basically, we write our own stories or chapters and then hand it off for the other to improve upon and/or add their unique touch or flavor. It takes trust and a united vision, and I have total trust and faith in H.C. To answer the unasked question of how do we resolve a difference of opinion, we go by who first wrote the scene and what their initial vision for it was. Remember - trust in each other is huge.

Do you base your characters on real-life people or situations?

H.C.     Rarely. For me, other things trigger characters, a song or a film clip. Events like mudslides and the like trigger stories too.

KevaD   I'm a people watcher, so, real life inspires character traits. A unique walk, how a person rubs their nose when concentrating, the turn of a wrist before a person speaks when making a point, an odd word repeatedly used - all of those have found their way into my work. I have incorporated places I've visited or things I've done into stories, but never actual people into it.

What genre(s) do you write in?

H.C.     Whatever moves me at the time. Historical, paranormal, fantasy, mystery, contemporary, sci-fi and BDSM so far.

KevaD   Name it, I'll write it. I despise mental boundaries.

If you could live anywhere in the world where would it be?

H.C.     Where I live now. Close to the beach in Australia…paradise. Oops there's an ellipse. I had to slip one in :)

KevaD   I agree. Where I live now, though there are places I would love to visit and probably won't ever have the chance.

If you could live in any era, which would it be?

H.C.     I like technology, so now is good but before Atlantis vanished sounds like a fun time in history. I mean, all those naked guys jumping over bulls. You gotta love that.

               H K   Indeed!

KevaD  There's a part of me that would have liked to see North America before man made his imprint on it.

If you could bring one of your own characters to life, who would it be and why?

H.C.     As a friend, Flame in Hurt Me Good. As a hunk, Nox in the Pride Brothers Series- who wouldn't love a seven foot tall fairy?

KevaD   I'd enjoy dinner conversation with Cheryl from Sunday Awakening, though I'm not too sure she wouldn't stab me before the night was over. She has a mean streak.

What are you reading right now?

H.C.      Sandra Brown, Two Alone.

KevaD   Uhm…nothing. I'm swamped with work at the moment. Writing, edits, my column, blogs, contest judging, don't leave me any time to read. After November I'll delve into a few books for sheer pleasure.

If there was a movie made of your life what would it be called? Which celebrity would want to play you?

H.C.     Diversity - Heather Locklear

KevaD  Diversity - Heather Locklear

H K  That would be something to see!

If you were to do a reality show, which one would it be?

H.C.      I have no idea lol.

KevaD   I was actually filmed for a segment of COPS once, but they didn't use it. The History channel did tape me discussing some photographs from Bonnie and Clyde's autopsies for one of their programs that aired. Yup. True.

H K  Bonnie and Clyde autopsy photos. That sounds interesting. But I'm afraid to ask for any details concerning the Cops episode. Including the obvious question; were you there as a journalist, a witness or a suspect? Just kidding!

Name a celebrity, athlete, musician, etc. you'd most like to get naughty with.

H.C.      I have a very jealous husband, so I'll pass.

KevaD   Demi Moore.

Tell us about your new release...

“Sea Games” is H.C.'s and my version of two former lovers reunited during a sea cruise. Separated when teens, their lives have taken vastly different paths. Now, all the hurt and anger surfaces and instead of confronting each other, they decide to begin a game with their hearts the ante, and love the prize to be won or lost.

Here's an Excerpt from H.C.'s and KevaD's Sea Games...

The temperature dropped to nipple hardening. Clouds machine-gunned the ocean, tufts of water splaying wherever rain bullets struck. Waves large enough to give a schooner captain a migraine crested and crashed with no effect on the cruise ship's journey. The wind tousled his hair, rain pelted his cheeks but Bowers continued his solitary vigil as dime-sized balls pattered around him. One smacked his forehead, sending icy water fragments rolling down his nose.

“I brought you some ice cream, but maybe you should eat it inside.”

He closed his eyes in the hope she'd go away and let his mind come to terms with how she'd thrown open the draperies shading their past. “There's a storm on the way. You should get inside.”

“Just one lick.”

Bowers forced a smile. “I never really cared that much for strawberry. You go enjoy it.”

“It's butter pecan, your favorite. The rain's melting it though, so you might want to at least take a bite. For me? Please?”

Opening his eyes, he snorted a chuckle and turned his head.

She held her dress open. Raindrops streaked milky trails through the ice cream smothering her breasts.

His cock swelled. His mind numbed.

Patrice let the dress slide off her and gripped the sleeveless openings of his shirt. Her eyes glistened as they darted back and forth scanning his face. Rain sparkled on her lips and flattened her hair. His heart hammered an ache for what they'd once had.

“We both need to know what it would be like now, BB.” Her eyelids drooped, her lips parted, inviting him to take the final step.

A furnace of anger fired in his gut, but why, he wasn't sure. “Damn you, Patrice.”

She touched her mouth to his. Her heat swarmed over his tongue, her taste a sweet memory.

“Be my Backdoor Boyfriend one more time.” The words slithered out heavy and searing with desire. “Do what you really want to do. Punish me. Make it hurt.”

Sounds like a hit to me!

Thank you both for being here. This was a lot of fun!
