Hope
Feisty Lawyers Book 4
by
Seelie Kay

Genre: Romantic Suspense, Contemporary Romance
Publisher: eXtasy Books Inc
Publication Date: October 4, 2019

No one knows what they’re made of until they’re broken. At the tender age of twenty-two, Hope Ali has finally joined the organization of her dreams, the Agency, an elite group of attorneys who go undercover to right wrongs the law can’t. The requirements are stringent, the training exhausting.

After seeking asylum in the United States when she was sixteen, Hope and her father, Sheikh Harun Ali, settled in a quiet Wisconsin town, hiding from those who had placed a price on their heads. Still, she excelled, finishing her university and law school education by the time she was twenty-one.

Now, after breezing through the Agency training program, Hope appears to be indestructible—until she is assigned a simple task during the rescue of an author among the disappeared in the UAE. The task? To distract the woman’s captors until she can be spirited out of the country.

Unfortunately, a member of MISix has other plans. In an attempt to disrupt the Agency’s mission, she tips off one of Hope’s enemies, alerting them to her location. Hope manages to lead the author’s captors on a merry dance, freeing others to rescue her, until she is unexpectedly confronted with a violent angry mob intent on harm.

She is left bloody and broken. No one knows whether Hope’s body or her mind will heal. Suddenly Hope is no longer just her name. It is also the one thing she must embrace to find her new normal.

Author Interview with Seelie Kay - New Release - Cult [Feisty Lawyers #3] #RomanticSuspense @SeelieKay

Cult
Feisty Lawyers #3
by
Seelie Kay

Release Date: May 17, 2019
Publisher: Extasy Books
Romantic Suspense, three flames

An Interview with Seelie Kay:

Q. Why do you write romance?

Because I am fascinated by the games people play to find and secure a lasting relationship, which is not always love. There’s the chase, the courtship, the falling, the surrender. That’s what I try to capture in my stories.

Q. Do you prefer a certain type of romantic hero?

I adore smart, dashing gentlemen who aren’t afraid to live on the edge. They can be a bad boy, a billionaire, a prince, or a secret agent. That hint of danger just hooks me! However, I also love strong, independent women who aren’t afraid to fight for what they want, even love.

Q. Why did you write “Cult?”

For two reasons. First, I have done extensive research on a religious cult a family member was involved in many years ago. There is specific type of personality that succeeds as a cult leader. They offer something others aren’t finding in their real life or through mainstream religion. Their grip on others is daunting. In many instances, however, a cult leader is nothing more than a con man with a great sales pitch. I wanted to explore that. Second, when I was in college, I had friends who got involved in cults. They gave up all of their worldly goods and submitted blindly to one man. And once in, they couldn’t get out. Fortunately, some did finally escape, but they were forever changed.

As I was doing my research, I realized that many cults treat their members as slaves, a form of human trafficking. Their free will has been taken away. Someone else does their thinking for them. As long as they submit and obey, they receive the basics—food and shelter. However, the consequences of nonconformance can be dire--physical abuse, incarceration, even death. It was not a story I could ignore.

Q. How does your former profession as a lawyer impact your writing?

My friends say I am obsessed with justice and I guess that’s true. After 30 years, the law and the legal world are so firmly embedded in my brain that I can’t flush them out. That has become the lens through which I view the world and that naturally guides my characters and plots. Injustice infuriates me, but it also leads me to great stories!

Blurb:

It’s supposed to be a simple assignment. A quick trip to a South American country for an “in and out” fact-finding mission. Unfortunately, the cult has other ideas.

When college students begin disappearing from American campuses, a notorious cult, God’s Delight, is the primary suspect. God’s Delight has been hosting shows featuring sex, drugs, and rock and roll around the country, and young people are flocking to them.

Among the missing is the President’s goddaughter, and he wants answers. When he asks Agent Cade Matthews, a member of a secret covert organization, to find her, the mission appears fairly straightforward. Find the God’s Delight compound, determine whether a welfare check on American cult members is warranted, and get out. Simple. Clean. Easy.

Cade sends newly-married Agents Dianna Murphy and Anders Mark to the University of Wisconsin to follow the trail to God’s Delight, but when they wind up in Bolivia, things go sideways. Suddenly, what appeared to be nothing more than a simple in-and-out could cost Dianna her life. When an Agency extraction is ordered, chaos erupts, and the question becomes, will anyone survive?

Excerpt:

“But everyone can leave when they want, right?”

Tillie cocked her eyebrow, clearly amused. “Of course. But why would they? This is paradise.”

“It is indeed, darling Miranda,” drawled a deep sultry voice. A tall, well-built man dressed in a white cossack, a thick wooden cross draped around his neck, wrapped his arms around her and kissed her cheek. His loose, long blonde hair framed a tan, handsome face with a strong nose and a wicked, full-lipped grin. He turned his piercing blue eyes toward Dianna and smiled. “Hello,” he said.

The man studied her, his expression predatory.

Dianna shifted uncomfortably. So, Tillie is using another name. Meaning she’s undercover. Noted. Dianna stuck out her hand and said. “Hi, I’m Bennie. I’m one of the students from Wisconsin working over at the orphanage. You were kind enough to allow us to stay here.”

The man took her hand and stroked it, his expression suddenly thoughtful. “Tell me, Bennie from Wisconsin, what do you think of my paradise?” His hand moved to her lower arm.

Dianna flushed. My paradise? Is this Reverend John? “It’s beautiful. Peaceful. But hot. And humid. Really humid.” She gazed up into the man’s eyes, somewhat stunned at the lust she found there. My God, he looks like he wants to devour me. Dianna quickly looked away.

The man chuckled. “You get used to it. But we keep the air-conditioning on in the dormitories for the newbies and limit their time in the sun. And of course, we all take a siesta during the hottest part of the day if we need one.” He released her arm. “We worship at day’s end when the air begins to cool. Otherwise, things get a little…sweaty.” He leaned down and kissed her on the cheek, gently tugging her hair. Then he walked away. Dianna’s gaze did not leave him as children followed him, playfully competing for his attention. Just like Jesus.

New Scintillating Romantic Suspense from Seelie Kay - Snatching Dianna - Out Now!

Snatching Dianna
Feisty Lawyers, bk 1
by
Seelie Kay

(Released10/19 by eXtasy Books)

SOMEONE’S KIDNAPPING LAW STUDENTS. WILL THEY FIND THEM IN TIME?

The hours are counting down as investigators try to prove that Dianna Murphy has been snatched. Unfortunately, without witnesses and solid evidence, all the police really know is that she is missing.

When suburban Milwaukee law student Dianna Murphy fails to connect with her roommate, there is no real evidence that she has been snatched. Until Law Professor Janet MacLachlan, a former covert agent, discovers a single clue, one that points to a taking by a slave trafficking cartel. In a race against time, Janet recruits her husband, secret agent Cade Matthews, small-town Police Chief David Manders and his wife, criminal defense attorney Julianna Constant, and other law students to uncover the truth. Can they prove she has been taken, before Dianna disappears without a trace?

Romantic Suspense (Three Flames)

* * * FROM THE AUTHOR * * *

MILWAUKEE, WILaw student Dianna Murphy is missing, but with no witnesses and no evidence, the Little River, WI police are stymied.

Until a singular clue points to a slave trafficking cartel. Then it’s a race against time as the police, a law professor, law students, and secretive government agents trace Dianna to Morocco and attempt to rescue her from the auction block. However, Dianna isn’t the only one in peril. The man masterminding the auction has also decided to claim one of the hunters as his own: A certain “luscious law professor.”

Called “intricate, fast-paced, and gripping” by an early reviewer, Snatching Dianna is author and lawyer Seelie Kay’s first attempt at romantic suspense. It is Book One of her new Feisty Lawyers series. The book was released today, October 19, by eXtasy Books.

Kay says she wrote the book for two reasons. “First, when writing the Kinky Briefs series, there were certain couples I fell in love with--The Sheikh and his American lawyer wife who sue terrorists on behalf of their victims, the police chief with a fondness for handcuffs and his criminal defense attorney wife who seek to right injustice, and a covert agent and his law professor wife, who are smart, funny, and incredibly hot,” she said. “Each of these couples have wonderful relationships and incredible lives. And each and every one of them is dedicated to preserving justice. So, I wanted their stories to continue.”

Second, Kay said, the plot “permitted me to focus on the continuing problem of slave trafficking as well as the investigative issues behind finding a missing adult. In this story, there is no evidence and no witnesses. It’s takes a lot of investigative savvy to piece together seemingly unrelated clues. It was a complex puzzle and I wanted readers to get a sense of how difficult it was to solve.”

Snatching Dianna is currently available on the publisher’s website (www.extasybooks.com) as an eBook.  It will also be sold as an eBook and paperback by other major booksellers, including Barnes & Noble, and Amazon.com.

After what seemed like hours in the sweltering van, it lurched to a stop.

Dianna heard a man bark orders. A door to the van opened and someone pulled the rope from her feet, then removed her hood. She took a deep breath.  A man grabbed her by the arm, forced to her feet, and pulled from the van. Dianna stumbled when she hit the ground. The stones were hot and her feet were covered by athletic socks, no shoes. Show no weakness.

Dianna immediately surveyed her surroundings. It was still night, but she was in a well-lit courtyard. A large stone mansion stood in front of her. She looked to her right, then her left. The courtyard was enclosed by a large stone fence, at least eight feet high. A fortress. Fortunately, Dianna was a rock-climber. She could rappel over the fence with the right equipment. All she would need was something to serve as a pick, maybe a rope. A knife, a screwdriver, even a fork. Keep your eyes and ears open. Be ready.

A large black man, dressed in a white suit and a maroon turban, walked out of the front door and down the stairs. He stopped and flashed a malevolent smile. He flung his arms wide and in a cultured baritone boomed, “Welcome to paradise, ladies. I hope you enjoy your stay.”

Some of the guards laughed.

“Crikey,” Tillie muttered. “Sounds like a blasted genie.”

Dianna glanced sideways and for the first time, got a look at her new friend. She was tall and thin, her body well defined. She looked strong and aware, almost fierce. Her eyes seemed to be studying the place, taking everything in. She showed no fear. Instead, she seemed interested. Something was off. Tillie did not act like a victim as the others did. She was not cowed. Was she a cop? Or like Dianna, someone who would not permit themselves to be broken?

There was only one thing of which Dianna was certain. She had found a friend. A useful one.

Her friend of almost 30 years not only looks unwell, she is cold and distant. After Julianna becomes convinced the woman is really an imposter, she attempts to expose the faux Marella by using a secret only she, Marella, and the sitting U.S. President share. In the process, Julianna helps to uncover an international conspiracy to seize control of the new country, using the president’s wife as a pawn in a dangerous and potentially deadly game. Excerpt:

The state dinner at the White House was in full swing. Waiters were busy delivering food and pouring wine, as guests ate and chatted with others seated at their tables.

Julianna picked at her dinner, some sort of beef dish with quirky vegetables, and continued to study Lodatian President Georges and Mrs. Marella de la Aerelli, as they chatted quietly with the U.S. president and his wife. Marella barely looked up from her plate, and conversation with her hosts appeared to be minimal. God, that is so not the Marella I know. She hasn’t even acknowledged me and I sent her an email informing her that I would be here.

Julianna set her fork down on her plate and nudged her husband, Little River, Wisconsin Police Chief David Manders. “Something’s wrong.” Julianna whispered. “Marella looks wrong. Maybe she’s just tired after the campaign, but she looks sick. Too thin and too pale. And she isn’t smiling. Marella is always smiling, even when she feels like shit. And she hasn’t even looked at me. Why is she ignoring me? Something is not right. I can feel it.”

David looked at his wife and tried to hide his smile. “Jules, you find a conspiracy behind every door these days,” he said quietly. He looked around to ensure that the other four couples seated at their table were otherwise engaged. “I vote for tired, no, make that exhausted. My God, five months ago, she was a farm wife in Lodatia, now she’s been thrust into the international spotlight as the wife of the President. That would exhaust anyone. I know if you ran for president, it would have a negative impact on me.”

Julianna smirked. “If I became President, sir, it would have a negative impact on both of us.”

David sighed and ran a hand through his short, silver hair. His piercing blue eyes gazed at his wife, his fondness apparent. “Well, instead of jumping to conclusions, let’s wait until the reception at the Lodatian Embassy. There are a lot of rules and protocols for visiting dignitaries. Maybe it just isn’t appropriate to buddy up to an old friend at a state dinner. Once you get up close and personal with Marella, you can get a better fix on things. That woman has been through the wringer, what with that opposition group trying to assassinate her husband not once, but twice. I imagine the stress of clinging to Lodatia’s newly formed democratic government is a kind of like hanging on to a cliff, knowing that if you fall, there will be no net to catch you. Cut her some slack and do not tell her she looks awful.”

(From Chapter Eight: My Men)

Relationships are complicated enough with two people. When a third is thrown into the mix, your heart just has to stretch that much more. And your mind has to embrace the fact that suddenly, you have two significant others who matter, not just one. As in any relationship, there are bound to be mistakes—errors in judgment, missed signals, misconceptions. However, love is still love, patient, and kind as the Bible says, even when someone royally screws up. The story of the law student triad returns because three hearts can merge into one. But that doesn’t mean it’s easy.

Mallory Sampson tried to roll over in her large, king-size bed, but her path was blocked by a body, one that was emitting not-so-soft snores.

With a sleepy sigh, she rolled the other way. A hand batted her away. Mallory’s eyes flew open and she sat up. “What in the Sam Hill are you two bozos doing in my bed?” She swatted at both naked men and gave them a stink-eye. “Last thing I need is two hungover lawyer wannabes drooling on my sheets.” She sniffed and held her nose. “You guys stink, in more ways than one.”

Matt Davis, his long dark hair covering half his face, opened one soulful brown eye and groaned. “Must have wandered in here in the middle of the night. Didn’t think you’d still be mad. Kind of missed you.” He reached out, his hand landing on Mallory’s thigh. She picked it up and pushed it back at him. Matt rolled away from her and mumbled, “Guess you didn’t miss me.”

Mallory turned and glared at her other bedmate, Jeff Andrews. “You know how I feel about you two hooligans tumbling in here after a night on the town, drunk to the gills, smelling like cheap whiskey. I told you to sleep in your own rooms. Dammit, I should have locked the door.”

Jeff moaned and gazed at her with half-lidded blue eyes. “Seriously, Mall? There is no lock on the door. And I am trying to sleep here.” He brushed his shaggy blond hair off of his forehead and frowned. “And no need to shout. I don’t even remember wandering in here.” He tried to sit up, then fell back onto the bed. He groaned. “God, get me something for my head. Please.” Then he shut his eyes and nestled into a pillow.

“Oh, hell, no!” Mallory’s face reddened with fury. “I ask for one night to myself and you two are too durn selfish to even give me that. This has got to stop. This is so not working for me. I should have never agreed to this ménage a trois thing. God, I was so frickin’ stupid.” She yanked the quilt off the bed and scooted to the end of the mattress. Then she stood, wrapped herself in the comforter, and stormed out of the room, slamming the door behind her….
