Prologue

Cairnnon Castle, Ireland—The Present

The earth underneath me quakes. The sky above me falls. It rains down on me. Pain explodes inside my head. My ribs break. I am crushed.

A deafening rumble offends my ears. My body is tossed and crumpled, battered by debris. It goes on for an eternity.

And then...

Silence. Stillness.

The pain is immense. Like nothing I’ve ever endured in my life.

Oh, God! Please! I implore wordlessly. I cannot speak, scream, or moan.

My eyes are closed. But beyond me, there’s brightness, so vivid I detect it through my closed eyelids. I try to open them, but none of my faculties are functioning. I am heavy. My lungs are burning. It hurts to even take shallow breaths. I concentrate on the unenviable task of simply inhaling in and out—an action I have obviously taken for granted all these years. The dust is choking me. I try not to cough. I will split apart if I do. My ribcage has already splintered with the weight upon me.

A low hum begins. It is annoying, but as it goes on it becomes comforting, harmonious.

As the fire in my chest subsides, I am lethargic, sleepy, and content.

Stillness.

I know what this is. It is elemental. Inevitable, from the moment we take our first breath.

I wait for it...

Death comes.

I am in and out of consciousness.

“Just come,” I whisper. Speaking is laborious, yet somehow it happens. “Just take me.”

The incessant drone becomes vibration.

I sense it, a presence. Above me. Surrounds me. Becomes me.

The pain subsides by degrees. Warmth seeps into me. I sigh at the pleasure of it. I hadn’t realized I was so cold.

Without words, it communicates with me. Death is one with me.

You enjoy that.”

“Yes. Thank you.” My gratitude is profound.

You know what I am.”

It is a statement. It is a part of me. It knows what I am thinking.

I don’t need to articulate. “Yes.”

You are not afraid.”

“No, you comfort me.”

For a moment I sense confusion, and I am bewildered by it. It is not my uncertainty. It is illogical. Death would not emote. But my thought is distracted.

The lovely heat spreads, radiating through every part of my broken body.

Ahhhh, that feels so good.”

Everything in me tingles, from the top of my head right down to my feet. There is no pain. Not even my lungs hurt anymore. My inhalations become rapid instead of shallow. My blood rushes. I can hear it traveling through my veins. My pulse pounds in my head. My body throbs. My breasts tingle and my loins catch fire.

I squirm. My body tightens. The heaviness in my lower body is nothing but carnal.

I am not even being touched, but I am being consumed and stimulated on every level. Mind, body and spirit.

It fills me, inside and out.

Unable to stop myself, I feel my hips list in that dance as old as time. I am going to come.

“Onnhhh!” I am bombarded by one blissful, gutwrenching wave after another of exquisite, relentless pleasure. I want to weep at the intensity of it, but I am helpless.

It has to stop, but I don’t want it to end. I thrash, uncontrollably experiencing an all-over body orgasm like nothing I’d ever experienced in life. Is this heaven? A powerful tug, deep inside, sends another round of sweet undulation through me.

I cry out.

What am I, Nevaeh?” Death demands.

I pant with my last breaths.

“You!

“Are!

“Allll!”

Chapter One

Neve Brádach opened her eyes. She was floating outside her body, above herself, looking down through the rubble and ruin that just hours ago had been Cairnnon Castle. Centuries-old stones and debris lay on top of her broken body, but somehow, she managed to see through the layers to her physical form below.

Unbelievably, sadness at her own horrific demise was not her first concern.

“Neve! Neve! We’re coming! Don’t give up! I’ll get you out!” It was Arnie Rollison’s frantic voice. The team-leader and her mentor. The man she’d longed to work with for years was now digging desperately with his bare hands. Unguarded tears ran down his dirty cheeks, leaving trails.

She felt sorry for him. He sounded so adamant, so determined. As if he still had hope.

There were tons and tons of wreckage. Even if she were still alive—and she wasn’t convinced that she was—they’d never reach her in time.

Neve laid a hand on his shoulder. “Arnie. Stop, my friend.”

His head twitched, as if he’d heard her, and his frenetic actions ceased for a moment.

“I’m sorry, Neve. I’m so sorry!”

Without warning, she was jerked back inside her body. The pain was dull, not sharp like it had been in the beginning.

Shit! I’m not dead. But I’m goin’ to die in here. I’ve seen the devastation above me.

Death was going to be long and arduous. “Come back to me,” she called Death. “Please come and take me.” But as she lay fading in and out of consciousness and time ticked by, she wasn’t sure if she begged Death to claim her permanently or for it to take her again and again as it had earlier. She longed for the carnal bliss that Death could provide. Her body tingled at the memory as the blackness once again enveloped her.

* * * *
Much later, the heavy equipment continued to dig above her, but she drifted out once more.

The next time she woke, the weight had been lifted from her chest. She opened her eyes, and to her astonishment, she was able to move her arms and legs. She looked down at her limbs.

“What am I wearing?” She let her fingers run over the unfamiliar fabric. “Where am I?” She searched the strange room. She blinked rapidly, confused. Who am I?

Her mind was blank, devoid of all memory.

Noise, like that of a large crowd reached her ears. Gaining her feet, she followed the sound, out of the room and down a hallway.

It seemed like a party. Everyone was in costume. Lit torches in sconces lined the wall, giving the entire area a dreamlike quality.

From nowhere, someone grabbed her. “There ya are. Where have ya been?”

Neve looked up at the man who stared down at her with deep intensity. Unable to stop her reaction, she gasped. He was the most incredible looking man she’d ever laid eyes on. Chiseled, rugged features. Striking, dark eyes. Strong chin. Tall. Muscular. He wore a crisp-looking white linen shirt, baggy trousers, and a blue and green checked sash.

He smiled, obviously sensing her attraction to him.

“Watch that smoulderin’ gaze, my sweet Nevaeh, or I will throw ya over my shoulder, with or without the vows, and take ya to my chambers and ravish ya until ya canna walk.”

Sounds good to me.

“Come. This is our celebration. Let us dance. I want nuthin’ more than to feel ya in my arms.”

He twirled her around and escorted her out onto the ballroom floor.

Reily is a West Coast girl transplanted to the opposite shore. When she’s not working with her dogs, you can find her curled up with a book or writing her next story. Past employment as an ICU nurse, private investigator, and work in the military police has given her countless experiences in a host of different environments to add a real world feel to her fiction.

Over time, and several careers, many incidents have flavored the plots of her stories. Man’s cruelty and ingenuity for torment and torture is boundless, not contained by an infinite imagination. Witnessing the after-effects of a teenager mugged at knifepoint for a pair of tennis shoes, or an elderly woman stabbed repeatedly with a screwdriver for no apparent reason, left an indelible impression that will forever haunt her subconscious. In counterpoint, she has observed a woman stop her vehicle in severe, snowy weather to offer her own winter coat to a stranger, a teenager wearing a threadbare hoodie. Life’s diversities are endless.

Though her kids are her life, writing is Reily’s life after. The one enjoyed after the kids are in bed or after they’re in school and the house is quiet. This is the time she kicks back with laptop and lapdog to give her imagination free rein.

In reading, take pleasure in a mental pause as you root for your favorite hero/heroine and bask in their accomplishments, then share your opinions of them over a coffee with your best friend (even if he’s four-legged). Life is short. Cherish your time.

The last blush of twilight relinquished its clutch on the mountain ridge to abandon the diversified splendor of the forest below. Nocturnal predators rose from their lairs, dens, and hollowed perches to scavenge the countryside in hopes of capturing lingering prey reckless enough to tempt the proclivities of fate.

“Michel—anything?” Strong gusts of wind whipped Gryffen’s short, blond curls about his face. His decent through the cloud cover to match speed with Michel left him visible to any creature below.

Gossamer webs of sleep still clung to his mind as Michel flew just under the low, ashen clouds. A light film bathed his face from the weight of their burden, lifted by the breeze of his passage. “No, all’s quiet. But the blood moon’s on the rise.” Soon it would flood the land with its heavy crimson blanket, foreshadowing a braided entanglement of destiny with man’s single-mindedness to survive.

“Hell, we can’t circumvent the prophecy if we can’t find the damned artifact.” Gryffen’s life consisted of one capricious adventure after another, sewn together with a penchant for finding trouble. The temporary lapse in his fun-loving nature signified the seriousness of their mission.

With all the modern technological advances extorted from fate, nothing explained Michel’s ability to defy gravity any more than his telekinetic talent. Yet these skills renewed his enthusiasm for learning and validated his intellectual existence and worth. “Too much mystery surrounds this gem.” A composite of scents and sounds of the forest rose from below to greet Michel in the deepening twilight.

“Yeah, like how do we destroy it? If it’s part of a prophecy, sophisticated safeguards must protect it, probably dark magick. For something so critical, why not send more in its search? Aren’t there a couple others older than dirt—like yourself?”

“Thanks, Gryffen. I miss your sense of humor when you venture off on your hunts. It is unusual for The Brotherhood to withhold information considering the dire repercussions for failure. At least they didn’t object to my enlisting you and Nichasin for assistance.” As an apex predator, Michel enjoyed existence at the top of the food chain and as master of everything within his enhanced sight, yet the deep stillness surrounding them was rank with the niggling portent of evil yet to come.

“Ah, figured I’d lend the old one a helping hand.”

“I’m surprised to see you in this sector...Thought you’d gone caving.” Gryffen’s fascination with caves spanned centuries without the slightest inclination of waning. No surprise he volunteered to search them. Still, his help would shorten the hunt for the artifact

“Thought I’d check in with you first. I’m still amazed this brotherhood either wouldn’t or couldn’t give you further information. Hell, find and destroy the ruby that will key a prophecy? Sounds pretty shifty, even for them.”

“Yeah, not much help, except the minor detail...I’d probably find it on or near a demon, which will die for its effort.” Hair on his nape stood as if to ward off the virulent tension romping down his spine.

“Only an angel can kill a demon, Michel, and you sure as hell don’t bat for that team. Hey, remember the first time we encountered a dirtball from hell we’d dispatched months earlier? He thought he’d get another shot at a master vamp. The dumb shit.” A slash of moonlight exposed perfect, white teeth in Gryffen’s youthful grin.

“Yeah well, consider the source.”

“Probably won’t see you again tonight. Some of those caves run pretty deep. Happy hunting.” The stiff breeze snatched Gryffen’s last words as he angled toward the saw-tooth profile of his destination.

“Go, have fun. Maybe Providence will grace you with her cutting-edge wisdom.”

“Not in my existence.” Gryffen’s laugh filtered back, thinned by the growing distance and moisture-laden air.

Despite Michel’s studies and commitment to humanity’s protection, a void had rooted in the darkest corners of his mind. Each rising, it surfaced to extort any novelty or anticipation in his automated reality. Duty had always come first, after which he studied whatever snared his attention. Still, he hungered for more—something to chase away the shadows and blisters cauterizing his soul.

Centuries of experience honed him into an expert assassin and tracker for evil’s myriad and divergent forms. Yet each kill left a new stain on his spirit that darkened his aura and took him further from the light of man. Since defeat had never left its toxic breath in his extended history, this mission would prove one more in a long series of significant encounters.

Minutes later, the scent of demon filled his nostrils. Descending to skim the void above the treetops rewarded him with a stronger stench. Whether this demon held the precious artifact or proved another dead end didn’t matter. Its removal fell among his duties as an ancient vampire and benefactor to humans, a win-win situation in the grand scheme of things.

The Nightmares Series by Sage Marlowe @SageMarlowe @Totally_Bound

The Nightmares - Series by Sage Marlowe

What if the old, folkloristic tales are true and nightmares exist? What if a nightmare isnt just the vivid and frightening scenario our tormented subconscious presents to us as we sleep, but a paranormal being that is as substantial and real as you and Ian incubus, a demon that feeds on human emotions? Could a man fall in love with such a demon, and could the demon love him in return?

Colin Meighan, co-owner of the small but successful gay porn production company Centre Studs is also the companys biggest star. He sports a pretty exterior, but theres more to him than meets the eye. Too young to know the full extent of what he is, he has to learn that the world he lives in isnt what it seems. There are powers at work that exceed everything hes ever believed in and the lines between nightmare and reality become blurred as he discovers the truth about himself and his gruesome heritage.

This, in short, is what the Nightmares Series is about, but theres more to it. A lot more. A cast of intriguing, likeable and mysterious characters takes you on a ride with more twists and turns than the average rollercoaster. Hot sex is more than just fun for these guysits vital. And yet, while one man alone can never be enough for demon Colin, romance and love are far from dead.

Try the Nightmares but be warned: theyre addictive and will possiblyprobablyleave you sweating, tossing and turning in your bed…or wherever you choose to read them.

Heres the beginning of A Nightmare Come True, Book One in the Nightmares Series, to whet your appetite (Copyright Sage Marlowe, 2013):

When the day I was supposed to meet Colin Meighan finally arrived, I still couldnt believe my luck. I was dying to meet the man in person, so, unsurprisingly, I arrived early at the address Uncle Tony had given me. It was a somewhat run-down former warehouse and far from the sexy and glamorous location Id been expecting to find.

My uncle Tony, who always knew someone who knew someone, had set me up for a job. "Its cash in hand," hed told me, shielding me from my mothers suspicious glances. "A fairly good rate, too, as long as youre willing to keep your eyes shut for some of the time."

It had been our monthly family gathering and I, true to form, had arrived with the news of having been sacked once again. Just what did it say about me that my mother hadnt even seemed surprised and my father, who once upon a time would have considered this a perfect reason to warm my hide, had just shrugged and continued to pick at his food?

"What exactly does this job involve?" Id asked under my breath, watching my parents wordless argument.

"A bit of everything," Tony had replied. "Its a low-budget film production and they just need a capable pair of hands to help move around equipment, put up lights and screens and stuff like that. Ive done it a few times myself, but Im busy that day."

Young and naïve as I was, the words 'film production' had blocked out the adjective 'low-budget' by far, but it hadnt been until Id cornered Tony on the doorstep, when hed been about to leave, that I had managed to extract further information on the film production in question.

"Gay porn," hed said, smirking. "But dont worry, the guys keep their hands to themselvesor each other, anyway. You wont need to watch the action either. Just turn around when youre done with your part of the job."

I hadnt pointed out the double-entendre in his last sentence. He certainly hadnt suggested I turn around and show my butt to some of the hottest guys in Britain. Pursuing the topic of gay porn or even gay sex any further wouldnt have been wise at the best of times, but on the doorstep of my fathers house, jobless and on the wrong page of my fathers books, it could have rendered me homeless within minutes.

Of course, my sexual orientation had always been a well kept secret at our home. My parents knew but the rest of the family remained in the dark, so dear Uncle Tony probably thought nothing of sending me to the set of a porn film. Little did he know that it was like asking an eight-year old to help guard a candy store. When hed mentioned the name of the production company, Centre Studs, Id barely been able to stop myself punching the air in victory. Centre Studs was a small company and a lightweight compared to the big overseas porn industry, but they made high quality films using the nations finest gay porn stars. And for me, when it came to gay porn stars, there was no one better or hotter than Colin Meighan.

The inside of the building kept the promise its outside had given. Bare stone walls, naked, chipped and paint-stained concrete floors and cheap, too bright overhead lights. I was a guy and it didnt take much to get me in the mood, but somehow Id imagined the location for a porn film shoot to have just a tad more of a sexy atmosphere.

I was one of the first to arrive. There was another guy with a ponytail who was busy glaring at his smartphone, two cameramen and one man who was busy taping a large microphone to a rod.

"Hi there," I greeted no one in particular and no one in particular responded. The only replies I got from the four men were muffled grunts and a mumbled "Hello."

I went to the man with the ponytail. "Hi, Im Mike. Mike Fawkes."

Tapping away on his phone, he barely looked up. "Peter Evans. Call me Pete. Im the producer-slash-director-slash-casting agent. Any questions, talk to me."

"Yeah, all right." I let my gaze travel across the run-down film set. A super king-size bed was tucked into a corner, which was probably for the best as it didnt look inviting. Its stripped mattress wore a multitude of stains in different shadesfading scars that had been earned in countless battles. An old-fashioned but large sofa sat in the middle of the room, its faded green corduroy covering threadbare in places. No, they didnt put much effort into an appealing location.

"So, this is where the actions gonna happen, huh?" I observed, mainly just to say something.

Pete glanced at me. The corners of his eyes were wrinkled in a half-smile. "Yeah. Youre early."

"Well, yes. I figured it might be better if I came early."

A soft chuckle right behind me made my back tingle. "Sweetheart, in this business its never good to come early."

Pete looked past me and grinned. "You took the words right out of my mouth. Hi, Colin. Youre a bit early yourself."

"Yeah, I know," Colin drawled. He moved past me and leaned in to Pete who tilted his head. For a moment I thought hed kiss him full on the mouth, then Colin turned the motion into a quick peck on the cheek, but it was too late.

A scene from the film Id watched last night in anticipation of the meeting interfered with reality and a dirty fantasy began to unwind in my mind. I imagined Colin greeting me with a kiss, only that ours would be open mouths and tongue-touching and all. Blood shot into my dick, fast enough to make me dizzy. Fool that I was, Id come prepared to meet the star of my dreams, but nothing had prepared me for Colins enormous sex appeal. On camera he was sexy as sin, off camera he was Viagra on legs. He wore tight-fitting, ripped blue jeans and a pale grey, long-sleeved T-shirt. The fabric of the latter was so soft that it not only hugged the curves of his pectoral musclesI could also easily make out the shape of the nipple piercing underneath.
