Lorenzo leaned against the rail watching his prey. “Get a sheet of plastic or a tarp or something. Vicki’s a little obsessive compulsive when it comes to the cleanliness of his precious boat. I have a feeling this is gonna get messy.” 

The man hanging limply in the chair, with the help of two goons holding him upright, whimpered. 

“Christ, Lorie. Stop this now. I’d rather you were using my boat to run drugs or something. He’s still alive. You can still stop this," Victor pleaded.

“And why would I want to stop this, Vicki?” 

I was so intent on the people in front of me that I almost let the guard’s light hit me again. He was just about on top of me when something pinged across the deck hitting the opposite rail. Luckily. it send the guard in the opposite direction. 

“That’s the second time tonight I’ve saved your ass,” Holly hissed. 

I looked in the direction of her voice had come from. “Where the hell are you?” I jeered back.  

“I'm in the life boat," she whispered, harshly.

I rolled across the deck. “How did you get in there? I didn’t even see you.” 

The whiteness of her teeth shone in the darkness as she grinned at me. “No shit, Elliott Ness. That was the idea.”

Today I'm sharing an excerpt from Running the second book in the Always Cambridge Series. This snip has been edited slightly to fit the MSS Rules a bit better, but you'll get the gist. Miss Holly is strong in mind, body and spirit and it doesn't go unnoticed by Federal Agent, Alex.

“What have I done?” Her expression perplexed, she cocked her head to the side. “You think I’ve done something?” In a split second her features turned from weepy to resentment. “Like what? Stolen something? Used the Bureau to steal information? Ohhh!” She made a strangled sound and her nostrils flared. Tears coursed down her face unchecked now in her anger. “I thought we were over this!” She dumped the contents of her bag out onto my desk. Her laptop hit the desktop with a dull thud. She was mumbling away in exasperation, not making a whole lot of sense, until she turned to me.

“What? Not good enough. You want to frisk me too?” The unbidden thought popped into my head that I probably wouldn’t mind. She was really pissed. She tore off her sweatshirt, her hair flying everywhere as she tangled with it. She threw it to the floor. 

She wore a tight t-shirt beneath. She lifted it as well giving me a glimpse of the camisole under that. It was lacy and feminine. Like her. She patted, pulling it up exposing her pale smooth flesh. As she pulled up her shirts I could see the tape that she used to secure her phone. In her anger she ripped it from her delicate skin and I cringed at the angry red welt it left. She fired the phone onto the desk. Turning in a circle she patted down each leg of her jeans. She shook out her legs. “Are you satisfied or would you like to call a female agent?” 

I stood there stupidly staring at her. I was at a loss and that never happened to me. I knew how to handle every situation. I’d been wrong, and I felt like shit about it, but I couldn’t make myself think beyond her amazingly toned body and the glimpses of creamy flesh she'd  just flashed me. I swallowed hard. She was thin, but she was fit. She worked out. Hard. She didn’t work out to stay thin or to keep that nice little body. She worked her body like she worked her mind. To keep it sharp and ready for any possibility. She looked incredible standing there, her chest heaving in her fury, her hair all mussed with static. I wanted to reach out and smooth it. But I knew she wouldn’t welcome that. More like, she’d rather take another round out of me. But I realized, I was up for that too. 

My main concern for now was getting my mind off her body...

Just in time for beach season, Holly Cambridge struts her stuff, and all the men on the Mayhue yacht, snap to attention...

 Excerpt:
 
I looked across the deck and towards the stairs, just as Holly stepped out of the shadows and into the sunshine and my heart skipped a full beat before it picked up in a much more rapid pace. It was a good thing I was seated because my body couldn’t help but react.

She was breathtaking in a beige, almost skin coloured bikini top, accented with red roses. It gave the illusion the roses were the only fabric covering her. A matching wrap was slung low on her hips. She had no reason to be jealous of my abs. She had an excellent four-pack going on herself, defined arms and toned legs. She was incredible. It was as if she was walking in slow motion—all we needed was that background movie music.

She had a pair of sunglasses pushed up into her short dark hair. Her feet were bare except for a gold anklet encircling one slim ankle. She made her way over to me, then eased down beside me, sliding her feet into the water.

I leaned near her. “You look amazing.”

She rolled her eyes slightly. Her alias 'Randi' might be a confident exhibitionist, but Holly clearly was not. She pulled her sunglasses down, shielding her emotions from me. We both looked forward and realized that all focus was on her, men and women alike.

Nate stared openly, while Victor was more subtle, pulling his shades into place, concealing his gaze, but the tight set of his jaw spoke volumes.

Loudly, I cleared my throat causing Nate’s head to snap in my direction guiltily. I knew I’d gained Victor’s attention as well, but he was too cool a character to admit to being caught at anything, his dark sunglasses keeping his reactions and line of sight, concealed.

#Saturday7 Simply the Best #MySexySaturday

Welcome to the 97^th week of My Sexy Saturday.

This week’s theme is Our Sexy Best and it brought to mind another song: Tina Turner’s The Best. If you haven’t heard this song, you should look it up because it has all the emotion needed for a hot, sexy romance. The one line that really carries this theme is the second one: Better than all the rest. This line is what this theme is all about.

This theme has no genre, no rules except that the characters know their other half is better than all the rest. They may have had lovers before but nothing compares to the lover they are with.

Funnily enough, I have a character nicknamed Best. An overbearing, straight-laced Federal Agent; SSA Alex Orton. Here's a snippet from the second book in the Always Cambridge Series : Running. 

It was actually funny how when my bottom dropped out, I always crawled back to Alex. I thought back to day I’d dubbed him, Agent Best. If nothing else we'd known how to push each other's buttons.

“Let’s go over the file.” I knew he was only humoring me. “We’ll start with the Cambridge file. And if there is time we will attempt to outline the Mayhue…” 

I’d sat back in the chair and folded my arms. “Perhaps there is another agent…” I all but dismissed him. It pissed him off, just as I'd hoped it would. 

“Another agent?” He leapt from his chair in outrage. 

“Your obvious hostility towards me seems to be clouding your judgeme…” 

“You, Miss Cambridge, know nothing of me! I am the best! If you wish to meet your objectives, you need me!” He'd boasted.

Biting back a smile, I met his level hostile stare and spun the file on the desk towards me. “Well then, Agent Best,” I challenged. “Can we get started?”

I captured her lips trying to engage her in a kiss that would be convincing to all interested onlookers. And I wanted Lorenzo Mayhue to see she was with me. She was mine. She was protected.

Holly kept her mouth closed. Her eyes were open and focused on mine. She looked terrified, as if she were more freaked out about kissing me than she was the mobster behind her.

“Kiss me back.” Placing my hands on either side of her face, I let my thumbs stroke over her smooth cheeks. “Don’t think about them,” I whispered against her mouth. She closed her eyes and tilted her head slightly. “Stop thinking and kiss me.” I let one thumb run under her full lower lip, coaxing her.

Those were the proverbial famous last words. She took my command of the kiss. Her lips parted slightly and she matched me. Our mouths plunged and plundered until I think we both forgot we were playacting or that dozens of people were watching.

I shifted, trying to keep her from my growing arousal. She stretched up on her tip toes trying to follow me. Her mouth opened wider and I stroked her tongue with mine. I ran my hands down her back.

“Enzo has left the parking lot.” I heard Wayne vaguely, when her nails grazed my back coaxing me to continue. I wanted to swat at my earpiece like it was a pesky bug. In the beginning I’d been listening for the sound of the car leaving the parking area. Somewhere along the line I’d completely missed that.

“Uh…Alex…Mayhue’s gone. Ten-four?”
